Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by a factor 4 is possible in France but requires no delay in measures to implement. This is the conclusion of a French organization, la Compagnie des négaWatts (with more than 20 energy experts in France), which designed an energy scenario for France, the 'NégaWatt Scénario', including thermal, electricity and mobility needs. This scenario concludes that France can cut its CO2 emissions by 4 between 2000 and 2050, which is rather a good news.

Members of the European Parliament and some national Parliaments have taken an initiative for action on energy efficiency and forming an “Energy Efficiency Watch”. They show not only that energy efficiency is the biggest energy source in Europe but that Europe stands the risk of lagging behind in development. Even more important, they give a long list with concrete examples of what they as legislators can do This is certainly contrary to what we normally think and say about politicians! They act and they act across the party lines. Energy efficiency is a citizens’ and not a political partisan issue. Every day that the efficiency resource is left without consideration is a day when valuable resources are wasted.
