When should I downsize a motor to save energy?

With modern HEMs designed for optimum efficiency at about 75% load, it's only when motors are running at about 25% or less that efficiency is likely to improve by swapping to a smaller motor. Even then, only likely to make financial sense if the motor needs repairing or replacing anyway.
