    Energy Efficiency Industrial Forum Position Paper 

    In a move to support and give further momentum to the European Commission efforts towards energy efficiency, the Energy Efficiency Industry Forum has put forward a position paper highlighting the role of energy efficiency in energy security.

    Energy efficiency is not an alternative to energy security but rather a vital component in achieving it. It is time that the Commission demonstrates strong leadership in pushing for more effective use of existing solutions.

    By way of specific actions, the Forum advocates that the Commission and Member States should:

    1. Adopt a mandatory, measurable savings target for energy efficiency of 20% by 2020 to signal the importance of energy efficiency measures for security of energy supply, economic growth and environmental protection
    2. Establish a co-ordinated investment and incentives initiative for improving energy efficiency across all sectors
    3. Communicate strong commitment to full and timely implementation of existing legislation on energy efficiency.

    The Energy Efficiency Industry Forum brings together major energy efficiency industry players in Europe:
