HF-filters, Y capacitors - the big bang!

       

Oops! It did not take 7 days but only 7 minutes until the filter expelled a cloud of smoke with a hissing sound and tried to escape the camera! So finally the electric drive for rockets has been invented! But its launch threw both the 16A circuit breaker and the 500mA RCD. Now consider that such filters are fitted in all washing machines and keep connected to the input voltage all of the time, also while the washing machine is turned off, because they need to be fitted close to the point of power input into the machine to develop their full filtering capacity! Nobody would appreciate a washing machine with the cable entering at the front or a mains switch located on the reverse side, so there is no other way but to leave the filter energized as long as the mains plug is plugged in. The observed misfortune, had the service life of the washing machine been some years longer, could have happened during the occupants' holiday and let them fail to record their favourite TV shows while they were out. But possibly still a bit worse, it might have thawed the deepfreeze. In a precedence case home owners reported to be welcomed by carcass odour already when opening the house door!
