Should high power factor CFLs with limited THD be generalized for the benefit of the power networks?
By Reader / Published on Tue, 2009-09-15 15:57In Egypt, 43% of the total power consumption is from lighting - quite high compared to Europe for example which is around 20%!!
Given that fact, the ministry of Electricity wants to pass a legislation to enforce all CFLs to have PF>.90 and THD<5%. Would this really have a benefit on the networks, increase its efficiency and minimize the huge power losses? Pls advise since this issue is creating a huge debate in our country.
