Created in 2001, LPQI has grown into a partnership community of 100 authorities in the field of power quality. They range from academic and polytechnic institutions to engineering companies. LPQI aims to provide end-users and business decision makers with facts and best practices to improve power quality in the non-residential sector and to raise awareness among policy makers. LPQI European education programme reaches 100 000 professionals each year.

This section of the power Quality and Utilisation Guide deals with energy efficiency.
Energy efficiency is becoming even more important as energy resources become increasingly scarce, difficult to exploit and expensive. Building generation capacity fuelled by renewable resources will help to meet demand, but decreasing consumption by reducing waste is a faster, cheaper, easier and more sensible approach.
Energy efficiency improvements are usually technically simple, relatively low cost and quick and easy to implement.

Dear Colleagues,
I’ve heard that introducing massively high efficiency lamps like CFL may produce a quite negative effect on the public grid and power quality due to the reactive power increase, and the dropping of the power factor below 0.8.
I’d like to ask you whether this is correct, and, if so, how to avoid such problems without impacting incentives for the implementation of high efficiency lamps?
Regards,

At Leonardo ENERGY, we're starting a reflection about the elements of the super-efficient society. Many of you will have heard of Factor 4, and the derived Factor 10 or even Factor 20 schools of thought. In the milestone book 'Factor 4', many solutions are more like an incremental improvement than a step change.
The building blocks of the super-efficient society can be technological, but behaviour change and organising society to use combined techniques are equally important.
