A new survey issued in the Eurobarometer investigates the attitudes of the Europeans to the environment. The survey is interesting and encouraging reading. The Europeans are distinctly prepared to rise to their responsibility towards environment and climate, and for a sustainable future. Not less than two thirds say that they consider that environmental protection to be prior to competitiveness in the industry. There is of course differences between the nations, but not as much as one could expect.
The conclusion drawn from this (and other) questions by the Eurobarometer is that the global nature of the environmental problems have permeated the Europeans. A fair conclusion since there is a consistency with the responses this time and a similar study made 4 years ago.

In 2001, EPRI estimated that poor power quality costs the US economy between $119 and 188 B annually.
A new survey by Leonardo ENERGY now concludes very similar figures for Europe. The study is based on the results of 62 completed PQ surveys carried out in eight European countries. Its extensive results make it possible to estimate overall PQ costs in Europe, and also to analyse many different aspects of PQ like perception of PQ problems, PQ problems versus causes, affected equipment, solutions.

In its 12th briefing paper '31 Years after the First Energy Crisis - the Need for an Energy Strategy', SEAL presented the potential of various technical solutions to contribute to energy policy objectives, concluding that a wide portfolio of technologies can be available for improving energy security and fighting climate change. It is a matter of developing and deploying these technologies, but also about creating the market conditions to induce investment. A survey accompanied this paper, which is still open and for which we need your inputs.

LPQI is carrying out a major pan-European project to identify a number of issues relating to current levels of Power Quality. Our aim is two fold:
- Identify what the issues experienced today are
- Second, to assess what the cost to industry and non-residential users is of inadequate resilience, reliability and immunity to PQ events in the electrical systems
To this end we would very much appreciate your time completing this questionnaire for one of the key industrial issues of today.
This is the short version of the survey. You will be invited to the extended version after completing this one.
