Desmet, Jan

Jan J. M. Desmet (M’01) was born in Kortrijk, Belgium, on March 30, 1960. He received the polytechnical engineer degree from the polytechnic in Kortrijk Belgium in 1983 and the M.S degree in electrical engineering in 1993 from the V.U.Brussels Belgium. Since 1984 he is member of the staff of the Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen Dept. P.I.H. He is professor at the Dept. P.I.H. teaching variable speed drives and industrial electric measurement techniques. His research interests include variable speed drives, rational use of electrical energy and power quality.

Didden, Marcel

Marcel Didden was born in Heerlen (NL) in 1974. He received his MSc.-degree in Electrical Engineering from the RWTH Aachen (Germany) in 1998. In 2003 he obtained his Ph.D. with his thesis ‘Techno-Economic analysis of methods to reduce damage due to voltage dips’ at the KULeuven (Belgium). Andreas Sumper Graduated as a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Dipl.−Ing.) at the Technical University of Graz, Austria, in 2000. From 2000 to 2001, he was an international project manager in the private industry. In 2002, he joined the Centre for Technological Innovation in Static Converters and Drives (CITCEA) at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain), where he is currently completing his PhD. At CITCEA, he is executing research and innovation projects with the local industry in the field of power quality. His research interests are power quality, power system reliability and distributed generation.

Ronnie Belmans received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering in 1979 and the Ph.D. degree in 1984, both from the K.U.Leuven, Belgium, the Special Doctorate in 1989 and the Habilitierung in 1993, both from the RWTH, Aachen, Germany. Currently, he is a full professor with the K.U.Leuven, teaching electric power and energy systems. His research interests include techno-economic aspects of power systems, power quality and distributed generation. He is also guest professor at Imperial College of Science, Medicine and Technology, London-UK. Since June 2002 he is chairman of the board of directors of ELIA, the Belgian transmission grid operator.
