Electric vehicles have gained much attention in the last few years. Though the concept of electric vehicles is already known from history and almost every decade had an upsurge, a real breakthrough for this kind of transportation has yet to be made. The main reason was the limited capacity of the battery systems, but with new developments in the field of electricity storage, new battery systems are being developed with higher energy densities and longer lifetimes.

Electric vehicles could play an important role in achieving the EU’s 20-20-20 goal. Electric vehicles have, unlike conventional cars, strongly reduced emissions. Air quality could improve considerably, which is especially beneficial for cities. Furthermore, when electricity for the electric car is generated by renewable energy sources, the electric car could be a very sustainable way of transportation. When connected to the grid, EV's can deliver power and can be seen as "mobile energy storage". This concept is called Vehicle to Grid (V2G). With intelligent communication in place, V2G can become an important instrument for the electricity infrastructure.

To what extend will electric car owners use the V2G principle in 2020?
