What issues and topics would you like to see discussed on this web forum?

This is the fourth in a series of articles for members of the new International Testing Centres Network and others who are interested in sharing experience of energy efficiency testing of industrial three-phase electric motors.

Effective motor testing depends on both manufacturers and independent test centres undertaking tests as consistently as possible. The aim of this series of articles is to encourage discussion between technical experts from test labs around the world on interpreting the new international test method standard IEC 60034-2-1. Other topics that will be covered include measurement techniques, procedures and equipment. One of the intended outcomes is to encourage improvements in motor compliance and check testing programs around the world.

Future articles

A series of articles will be posted on this web forum. We expect that each month, one or two new articles will be posted for discussion.

These articles are likely to include:

  • Obtaining good and reproducible test results – measurement techniques
  • Test equipment requirements to achieve high accuracy
  • What works well with the new IEC 60034-2-1 test method standard? What could be improved?
  • Laboratory accreditation and quality assurance
  • Compliance and check testing of motors
  • Comparing test results

These are our initial ideas, but we would also like input from laboratories and other stakeholders. What topics would you like to see discussed? Are there any issues that you want to talk about with other laboratories?

If you have suggestions for new articles, please post them as a comment below. Or you can email your suggestions to Sarah Hatch.

We look forward to hearing your ideas!
